Still searching for a sense of place

Published August 25, 2024

When I moved to the Pacific Northwest from Louisiana in 2010, I wanted to live where I had a view of a mountain, a hillside, anything that would remind Toto and I we weren’t in Kansas anymore. Unless you’re rich, and even if you are, that can take a little luck.

Long story short, I’m still looking.

That’s in part because of the pandemic, in part because of life circumstance. I have been mostly holed up in my apartment for 4 1/2 years now, or 1,625 consecutive days. When I stare at my four walls, I could be anywhere.

The view of Portland I’m sharing with you is one I get during some medical appointments. It’s lovely and still fascinating to me.

I’m running out of time to find a place where I can look out my window while working from home and see something that reminds me I am usually either in Oregon or Washington, and minutes from the other while I’m in the one.

But a girl can dream.
