October is my treat month, a welcome time amid all the tricks. It’s here

Published October 1, 2024

My favorite month is here. In my favorite season. Finally.

It starts with my birthday. And since 2017, it’s a reminder of the day I came out as a transgender woman. I now have two birthdays.

This is what the Wild Woman Rising calendar has to say in October:

BALANCE THE TENSION

Both light and dark have a place in your true self. The hidden mysterious void that all life springs from is the dark, whereas waking awareness and creation is the light.

It takes both, in balance, to rewild your heart. When we are in balance, consciousness unfolds like a flower sharing its essence, and Wild Woman rises.

Seven years and counting

I am seven years “out,” openly trans, but out is a relative term. More than half the days since I told the world I am transgender have been spent in isolation. There’s not much else to say.

If I had smaller fingers and a bigger phone, the calendar collages I make would be straighter, but I kind of like how they turn out. My life and I are anything but straight.

And that’s okay.

So is writing it as okay instead of OK. It’s my website, and I don’t have to follow the AP Stylebook 24/7. Something something well-behaved women seldom something something something.

And did you know that some people see OK and think Oklahoma and not okay? I don’t work in print anymore. Those extra two letters aren’t going to hurt anybody.

Sending love.
