It’s not the people who are wrong that worry me the most

The people who are on the wrong side of history, on the wrong side of the present, do worry me. They do scare me. They are dangerous, it’s true. But they’re usually easy to spot. They don’t tend to hide who they are. They will proudly tell you.

The ones who worry me the most smile to your face and talk about you behind your back. Conceal their true selves. Work on their brand seemingly far more than on their heart. Not only can never admit they’re wrong, they can’t grasp when it’s not even about “right” or “wrong” but about what’s best for the situation given its complications and context.

Who don’t know what they don’t know but confidently move through life as if they know it all, or at least know enough.

And who listen to respond instead of listening to hear, to learn, to let in fresh air.

I love that listen and silent are spelled with the same six letters.
