I want to use a word I’ve never used before

Speech bubble made up from hundreds of words

Published September 7, 2024

Not a show-off word. Not a five-dollar word. Not a gimmicky word. But I feel the urge to use a word I’ve never used before.

I’ll know it when I see it.

I’m still sleeping 75 percent of my 24 hours away, and it’s not by choice. So remember to laugh when an influencer or thought leader or hustler of any kind — or an inspirational poster! — boldly proclaims that we all have the same 24 hours (mostly to shame you, I think). That is laughably not true, and I’m nowhere near the most extreme examples of that.

Ask me someday for my growing list of people and places to visit to find out if they have the same 24 hours that you do. Then report back.

Anyway, I’m still sleeping away most of mine as I heal and try to return to some semblance of normal. I wake up to notes I jotted down, and at best they look like the word cluster above. One in 10 makes enough sense that I try to do something with it.

Cynosure is a word I fell in love with decades ago and waited for years to use. What will the next one be?

I hope you’re safe and well, or as well as can be.
