How have I not talked about World until now? Or have I? See, I don’t even know.
Talking about it is risky. A lot of people do not want to hear about your Wordle results. I noticed this a couple of years ago on social media. Wow. It was the new “Nobody cares about your fantasy football (or baseball) team.”
Oh, well. Life is hard. Still, I press on with this brief detour to discuss Wordle. If nothing else, it’s a good way to practice writing short sentences.
I wasn’t thrilled when The New York Times bought Wordle. I’m unwilling to go into detail about some of that, but I’m fine letting you know they’ve messed up my streaks a few times. I’ll also tell you that I’m certain I messed up a few of them myself. Losing time during this pandemic has been a real thing, and a disorienting one.
Anyway, as you can see in the image atop this post and the one above with my result from a few minutes ago, I’m a solid 4. I’m more likely to solve a World with a 4/6 score than any other. My longest streak, 69 straight Wordles solved, will probably never be broken. I do forget to play from time to time.
Regardless, I’m grateful to have had Wordle since everything started breaking. It joined “Ted Lasso,” my better-late-than-never viewing of “The Good Place” and a few other distractions and psychic anchors during this pandemic.
My biggest gripe is with myself. I stopped using my standard first guess, AUDIO, for one lousy night, and guess what it was that night? Yep. A-U-D-I-O. I missed out on what would almost certainly have been my only 1/6.
Oh, and wow. I’ve played it 597 times? It doesn’t seem possible. But my isolation counter says this pandemic has directly affected me for 1,312 days, so that has to be right, give or take a few lost plays.
Thank you, Wordle. You’ve been one of the things I’ll always treasure about this time.
